Lázar Markóvich Lissitzky (Pochinok, 1890- Moscow, 1941) was a multifaceted artist, a bridge between the European avant-gardes and the cultural transformations of the Soviet Union after the Bolshevik Revolution. El Lissitzky studied architectural engineering in Germany, and disseminated Russian art through an abstract and geometric language in black and red (colors symbolizing the revolution) which he applied to areas like typography, advertising and editorial design.
