From 1 May to 31 October 2015, Milan once again hosts a universal exposition. The first one opened in April 1906 to celebrate the start of a century that heralded the triumph of scientific progress, but which soon saw the Great War. The precedent is interesting because it throws light on the cultural gap between one century and another, and on the opinions on how the metropolis of the Lombardy region prepares to receive the 20 million visitors expected.

The Expo of 1906 was the first to abandon the 19th-century fair model and become a theme exhibition; the Expo of 2015 is the first to emphasize the theme of ecology and its social, economic, and geopolitical aspects, reflecting the world problem of food and resources...
