Timber bridge in Jiangmen

In Jiangmen, a city of Guangdong Province in southern China, the Gulou tourist resort recreates a village splashed with ponds and canals to showcase traditional activities related to fishing and husbandry. The resulting eco-cultural theme park thus features many bridges, among them a covered pedestrian one designed by the Beijing firm of Luo Yujie, which arches to enable boats to pass underneath. To raise the structure, hundreds of pieces of pinewood were screwed together by means of building techniques traditionally used in southern Chinese rural villages. Spanning 25 meters, the footbridge has metal plaques to protect it against rain. Inside, a longitudinal skylight stretches on to the extremes, at each of which there is a viewing point.
