‘Breeze of Innovation’ tower in San Jose

SMAR Architecture Studio

SMAR Architecture Studio – headed by Fernando Jerez and Belén Pérez de Juan and based in Australia, Spain, and Lithuania – has won the Urban Confluence ideas competition for a Silicon Valley icon in San José’s Guadalupe Park. Selected from a pool of 963 entries from 72 countries, the winning scheme shows a dynamic 61-meter-tall structure clad in hundreds of carbon fiber tubes that sway with the wind, generating the electrical power needed to light up the upper stretches of the rods at night.

Within the bristles of this brush-like landmark, a void rises 600 meters to a viewing platform. Encompassing a built area of 15,000 m2, the project includes exhibition and multipurpose spaces as well as a café.

Breeze of Innovation awaits final approval from the San Jose City Council.
